Why Is the U.S. In Central Asia? A New and Better Reason for ‘The Endless War’

by Ted Becker

OK, OK. I was wrong. I was pretty darned sure I knew what lay behind the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq…and I remain convinced that I got part of it right anyway.

Yes, it was about oil. Even Alan Greenspan, the former Fed Chairman, admits that. But there was a lot more than that. Mostly it was about “forward operating bases” (to use the NeoCon theory behind it) to: (a) bring about “regime change” in Iran and Syria; and (b) to extend the “containment” of Russia and China and keep them bottled up in “The Heartland” of “The World Island” (to use the words of the ever popular geopolitical theorists).

Afghanistan? Well, there were the pipeline deals that never quite got made. I found this YouTube video called “The Oil Factor: Why Are We In Afghanistan? O-I-L.”

It’s about 10 minutes long, but you only really need to watch the first half, where they show you the maps with all the American bases and give you and idea of the geo-strategic theory behind it all. Pretty good stuff—a lot like what we say in our online book.

Are we saying that the U.S. was in Afghanistan because of pipelines? Sure. Isn’t it to protect our ‘homeland?” Hahaha. You’re joking. Hey, the Unocal pipeline deal was being negotiated with the Taliban for years and years, but they didn’t bite. So, out they had to go. Hamid Karzai? Didn’t you know he was a paid consultant for Unocal? Check it out on Google.

But I gotta admit that the American Corporate Oligarchy even fooled me. Never did I expect , according to the New York Times on June 13, 2010, what these guys have actually been up to. All this time, they’ve been prospecting for minerals alright, but not oil. For years now, along with a team of geologists, they’ve been scouring Afghanistan for metals and minerals. And what a treasure trove it’s turned out to be. Drum roll, please: GOLD. Copper. And best of all? A HUGE reservoir of…LITHIUM! No, they don’t want it to get all Americans sedated for the collapse of the American economy…and the ecological disaster brewing in the Gulf of Cheney. They want it because it is going to be main ingredient in CAR BATTERIES. You know, it’s the fuel for electric cars!! Afghanistan will be “The Saudi Arabia of Lithium.” Hooray for GM!!!

Smart. Very Smart. Except for one little thing.

Those durned Taliban.

General Dwight D. Eisenhower

Do you think The Taliban want American Infidels to control the vast mineral wealth that the Americans have discovered? NO WAY, JOSE! Now that we’ve shown them the way to boundless wealth, they will NEVER quit fighting America and the puppets they want to install in Kabul. Perfect. The NeoCons and the U.S. military-industrial complex want their “Long War”…and they have found the best way to keep it.

General Dwight D. Eisenhower, probably the greatest American military hero of the 20th century became president of the U.S.A. in 1952. He served two terms…and in 1961…in his Farewell Address…he gave America a grave warning about this new and extremely dangerous development in U.S. history: “The Military-Industrial Complex.”

What follows are two YouTubes: The first is Ike’s solemn warning. Even if you’ve seen or heard it a few times, watch and listen again. The second is about the false rhetoric and waste of America’s precious human and financial resources in trying to get a puppet government to rule Afghanistan so that American corporations can loot that land of its wealth and keep America’s military there forever to protect those industrial interests.

I ask you: Is this longest war in American history “to win the hearts and minds of the Afghanistan people” worth “containment,” “pipelines,” “metals,” “lithium” and who knows how many deaths of young Americans?

Remember: The Taliban, like the Viet Cong, will NEVER give up…particularly with all that gold, copper and lithium under THEIR country. Endless resistance is exactly what the Pentagon wants.

The only way out is if the American people rise up en masse against this insanity as they did in the 1960s. If the American people did not insist on the U.S. government getting out of Vietnam, the American military would still be deep in the Big Muddy…just as it is today in Afghanistan…for exactly the same reason: It needs wars to justify its excesses. Do you want to see video like the one above forever? No? Then find the anti-war website or Facebook page nearest you and join up.

  6. You may have not intended to do so, but I think you have managed to express the state of mind that a lot of people are in. The sense of wanting to help, but not knowing how or where, is something a lot of us are going through.

  7. Oh my goodness! Youre so right! I really dont think anyones put it that way before! You must be an expert on this because you just made it so easy to understand, made me want to learn more about it! Do you, like, study this subject because you seem to be so in tune with the issue? Keep it up, man. Youve got a great mind for it!

  8. Looks like a great read. It seems those that run the war machine maybe don’t remember the lessons of Vietnam.

  9. What a great resource!
